This year’s reviews highlight Elderton’s Elite range, featuring exceptional scores for the 2021 Command Shiraz and the 2022 Ashmead Cabernet Sauvignon.

2021 Command Shiraz – 96 Points

Awarded an impressive 96 points by Dave Brookes of the Halliday Wine Companion, the 2021 Command Shiraz is described as a ‘regional classic’. Renowned for its cellar-worthiness, this Shiraz boasts elegance and grace. It offers a velvety smooth texture with notes of satsuma plum and blackforest fruits, interwoven with layers of spice. The well-integrated French and American oak complement flavors of shoyu, dark chocolate, roasting meats, cedar, tobacco leaf, and earth. Powdery tannins provide ample support, leading to a long finish with ripe plum, roast meat, and chocolate tones. While it promises to age beautifully, it is also approachable and enjoyable now.

2022 Ashmead Cabernet Sauvignon – 95 Points

The 2022 Ashmead Cabernet Sauvignon has earned 95 points from Dave Brookes. This single-vineyard Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, matured in French oak for 18 months, is a deep crimson wine with rich aromas of cassis fruit, clove, blackcurrant pastille, cedar, eucalyptus, dark chocolate, kirsch, and licorice. Full-bodied and finely poised, it presents ripe blackberry tones, tight fine-grained tannins, and a long, extended finish. It shows great promise for aging well with careful cellaring.
