Mercurey

Our Story

In 1934, Marquis de Jouennes produced the first bottle of red Mercurey under the Château de Chamirey label, marking the beginning of a distinguished winemaking legacy. The estate spans 37 hectares, including 15 hectares designated as Premier Cru, showcasing the diverse soils and microclimates of the Mercurey appellation.

Built in the 17th century, the historic winery at Château de Chamirey has recently been meticulously renovated in a traditional style, using high-quality, locally sourced materials such as Corton stone, Burgundy oak, and aged glass and metal. This attention to detail preserves the château's rich heritage while enhancing its functionality. Wine enthusiasts can indulge in tastings from five esteemed estates managed by the Devillard Family: Château de Chamirey, Domaine des Perdrix, Domaine de la Ferté, Domaine de la Garenne, and Le Renard. Each estate reflects a commitment to quality and tradition, offering a unique expression of Burgundy's renowned terroir.

Mercurey

In 2021, the Devillard family created the unique Mercurey Rouge Premier Cru 'Les Cinq' cuvée by selecting the best barrels from five Premier Crus at Château de Chamirey: Les Ruelles, En Sazenay, Clos du Roi, Clos l’Évêque, and Champs-Martin. Grapes are hand-harvested and sorted, followed by a cold pre-fermentation and a 15-day maceration with 10% whole clusters. The wine, aged 15 months in 70% new French oak barrels, has a shiny red color with ruby reflections. The nose reveals mature red fruit aromas with floral and spicy notes, while the palate is straight, fruity, ample, and fresh. Best served at 15-16°C, it pairs well with grilled Charolais beef and mushrooms and can be cellared for 10 to 15 years.
