Reichersdorf

Our Story

The family-owned winery in Reichersdorf is currently run by the tenth generation winemaker, Markus Huber. The Huber family have roots in the region dating back more than 220 years; in 2000, Markus took over four hectares from his father which, up until that point, only produced wines that were served in his family restaurant.

Winner of the prestigious Falstaff award for “Best Winery/Winemaker in Austria,” Markus has successfully established Huber as a showcase for precision, minerality and elegance. Huber has also since been noted for ‘putting Traisental on the map, both, internationally and in Austria,’ by Austrian Wine. The family’s highest priority is to work without compromise in the vineyards and in the cellar for premium quality. The winery plans to be completely energy efficient, maintaining their own heat and water sources, including installing a 3MW solar panel plant producing electricity for the winery and 750 households.

Traisental

This grand cru vineyard lies on a gently inclined east-facing slope with silty calcareous soil over a two-meter thick loess layer, underlain by limestone and dolomite conglomerate. Grapes are selected at optimal ripeness, crushed, and have 12 hours of skin contact before pressing. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel, followed by 8 months of batonnage, split between acacia wood casks and stainless steel. The wine is an intensive yellow with greenish hues, offering aromas of herbal spice, tobacco, and ripe fruit. The palate is concentrated, well-balanced, and features ripe acidity.
