Our Story

Louis Guntrum, established in 1648, is currently owned and operated by Louis Konstantin Guntrum, the 11th generation of the Guntrum family. The winery, located in Nierstein, was re-founded in 1909 by Louis Guntrum after the family returned from Bensheim post-French Revolution. During WWII, General Patton occupied the estate in February 1945.

Konstantin Guntrum, who grew up in Nierstein and Oppenheim, took over the family estate in 2003. He strives for excellence and terroir expression in his wines, focusing on organic grape growing without certification. Known for their Rieslings, Louis Guntrum wines express the unique terroirs of Nierstein and Oppenheim.

Konstantin lives in Oppenheim with his wife Stephanie and their three sons. He has been the President of the Nierstein Winegrowers Association since 2009 and is a member of the Rheinhessen Wine Guild and the Confrérie St. Etienne d’Alsace. Louis Guntrum has been represented by Broadbent Selections Inc. since 1996.

Rheinhessen

Renowned Riesling master Louis Guntrum crafts the Spätlese Nierstein Rehbach, a medium-sweet wine that exemplifies elegance and balance. From one of Nierstein's top vineyards, it features floral and tropical aromas, including lime, orange blossom, and tangerine. The palate is rich with flavors of lychee, melon, and pineapple, accented by hints of honey, dried apricot, and sultana. A bright acidity ties everything together, making this wine both refreshing and satisfying. Pair it with a red Thai prawn curry for a delightful contrast of sweet and spice.
