Our Story
The Cirillo family has been caretakers of one of the world's oldest Grenache vineyards for the past 41 years. The ancient vines, planted in 1850, are basket pruned and bush trained. The first Cirillo 1850 Grenache was produced in 2003. The vineyard's deep silt sand over limestone and clay results in incredibly intense and rich fruit. Marco Cirillo personally trains and nurtures each vine, ensuring exceptional quality.
Located in the Barossa Valley, Australia, the vineyard spans 20 acres, with 16 acres under cultivation. Annual production is 4,500-5,000 cases, focusing on Grenache, Mataro, Shiraz, and Semillon. The vineyard follows organic principles.
Wines
1850 Grenache
Cirillo
Barossa Valley
Should be called 1848 because that is when the vines were planted, but Marco Cirillo decided to round up. Just like The Vincent this Grenache is grown in Vine Vale, the coolest and smallest subregion of the Barossa Valley. Open top fermented and finished in older hogshead for 24 months. Dark cherry, aniseed, spices.
1850 Semillon
Cirillo
Barossa Valley
The Cirillo 1850 Semillon is produced from a single vineyard in the Light Pass region of the Barossa Valley, believed to be the oldest Semillon (Madeira) vineyard in the world and one of the last remaining in Australia. Harvested early in mid-late January, the grapes are picked with high acidity, handpicked, and basket pressed before tank fermentation without oak. The wine is extremely pale green/yellow, with aromas of lemongrass and clean mineral notes. It features a dominant fruit palate, light structure, and a driven acid finish.
The Vincent Grenache
Cirillo
Barossa Valley
The baby brother of 1850 Grenache if you consider 80, 90, and 100 year old vines to be babies. Basket pressed, open top fermented, and finished in both stainless steel and older French oak. Red fruit, gluggable, silky.
