Swartland
Our Story
The Curator was born in 2011 from a simple challenge: find a natural wine that dramatically overdelivers on quality for the price.
Our search led us to the Swartland, South Africa’s oldest and most historic wine region, known for dry-farmed old bush vines and a warm Mediterranean climate. Many of these vineyards were planted generations ago, with some vines over 100 years old. Their naturally low yields produce intensely concentrated, expressive fruit — the kind rarely seen at this price point.
We work with long-established farms and source select parcels that might otherwise be lost to large commercial blends. The wines are made with minimal intervention, emphasizing freshness, balance, and a true sense of place.
Named after the idea of curating great wines, The Curator quickly earned a reputation as one of the best value wines on the market. Today, it’s enjoyed across the United States, the United Kingdom, Norway, and Quebec — proof that carefully sourced old-vine South African wine can deliver both authenticity and exceptional value.
Wines
Reserve Chenin Blanc
Broadbent – The Curator
Swartland
Aromatic and vibrant, this Chenin Blanc expresses the spectacular Swartland terroir. Sourced from old, dry-farmed bush vines, it offers a beautiful bouquet of sweet honeysuckle and wildflower notes. On the palate, it’s lively and textured with bright acidity, freshness, and appealing minerality. A wine of intensity and finesse, with good length and a charming chalky finish.
Reserve Pinotage
Broadbent – The Curator
Swartland
To mark the 100th anniversary of the variety, The Curator introduces a new Reserve Pinotage in 2025. Sourced from 25–30-year-old bush vines rooted in granite and shale soils, the wine channels Swartland’s raw, coastal energy. Native-yeast fermentation in stainless steel and gentle extraction through soft pump-overs preserve fruit integrity, while aging in a combination of French oak and steel adds polish without weight. The style is medium-bodied, juicy, and texturally refined — a modern interpretation designed to honor Pinotage’s centennial with approachability and authenticity.
